6. Remove Certain Food Odors From Containers
Plastic food containers can retain the smell of garlic, onions, sauces, or other strongly flavored ingredients.
For suitable containers, wash them with dish soap and water first. If an odor remains, try soaking the container in a solution of baking soda and water, provided the manufacturer’s instructions allow it.
Rinse thoroughly and allow the container to dry completely.
If the container is cracked, badly stained, or continues to hold unpleasant odors, replacing it may be the better option.
7. Clean Selected Household Items With Care
Baking soda can be useful for light cleaning on some washable, compatible household surfaces.
For example, it may help remove ordinary residue from certain hard plastic items or washable surfaces when used with gentle pressure.
However, avoid assuming that every surface can tolerate it. Natural stone, delicate metals, glossy finishes, and easily scratched materials may require a specialized cleaner.
When in doubt, test a small, inconspicuous area and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
