She knew how to dance.
Years ago, Adrian had loved watching her move.
So she began.
Her hands moved gracefully.
Her wrists turned delicately.
Her hips followed the rhythm.
She tried to move beautifully despite the tight gown squeezing her waist and stomach.
But every turn was uncomfortable.
Her eyes began filling with tears.
Then she heard laughter.
First from Adrian.
Then from several nobles.
And finally, from the four women standing together in the corner.
One of them covered her mouth and said loudly enough for everyone to hear:
“Look at the queen… she looks like a pig.”
The others burst into laughter.
Isabella continued dancing for two more steps.
Then she stopped.
The laughter continued.
Slowly, she lifted her head.
A tear rolled down her cheek.
But there was no shame in her face anymore.
There was anger.
“STOP IT!”
The music ended instantly.
The entire ballroom froze.
Isabella walked directly toward the throne.
Adrian was still half-smiling.
“What happened?” he asked mockingly. “You don’t want to entertain us anymore?”
Isabella stopped directly in front of him.
“You wanted everyone to see what I’ve become, didn’t you?”
Adrian’s smile faded slightly.
“Isabella…”
“Then look.”
She turned her back to the court.
Her hands reached behind her.
