Part 2: The Name on the Prescription
The investigators compared the substance found in Caleb’s system with what remained in the bottle.
The two were connected.
But the prescription raised an immediate question.
The bottle wasn’t prescribed to Amber.
It wasn’t prescribed to me.
The name printed on the label belonged to Derek Holloway, Amber’s boyfriend.
I had met Derek only a couple of times. Looking back, there had been little things about him that I had never thought much about.
Now, those memories suddenly seemed different.
Detective Miller checked the prescription records and confirmed that Derek had received the medication recently.
When investigators contacted him, his story didn’t remain consistent.
At first, he claimed that the medication had disappeared from his home.
Later, he admitted that Amber had asked him for some of it, telling him she needed it for her own anxiety.
The evidence suggested something very different had happened.
The medication had apparently been brought to the park and given to Caleb without my knowledge.
What had initially been described as a harmless attempt to calm a restless child had become a serious medical emergency.
And there was another detail that made the situation even more complicated.
Amber had allegedly tried to make investigators believe that the medication had come from me.
Fortunately, the evidence did not support her explanation.
The prescription records, laboratory results, and statements from those involved began to tell a much clearer story.
Most importantly, Lily had witnessed enough to understand that something was wrong.
She had been the one who called me.
Later, when she saw me at the hospital, she broke down and apologized.
She told me that her mother had warned her not to call.
I hugged her and told her she had done exactly the right thing.
She had asked for help when someone needed it.
That decision would become one of the most important moments in the entire story.
As Caleb remained under medical care, the investigation continued.
And slowly, the truth became impossible to hide.
