“Your vehicle was reported stolen,” Matthew said. “That is an interesting coincidence.”
Ambrose glanced at his attorney.
“I had nothing to do with the vehicle.”
“Then you won’t object to cooperating with the investigation.”
“Of course not.”
Matthew slid another document across the table.
“Your company has been involved in several questionable transfers involving Vargas International. We are also reviewing your attempted acquisition of property held by my group.”
Ambrose’s composure began to crack.
“This is a business matter.”
“Then let’s discuss business.”
Matthew leaned forward.
“Did Isabel Vargas promise you control of the assets held in Elena’s trust?”
Ambrose said nothing.
Elena watched him carefully.
At last, he spoke.
“Isabel told me the girl had agreed to certain arrangements. She said the family had reached an understanding.”
“I never agreed to anything,” Elena said.
Ambrose looked away.
“Your stepmother said you were willing to cooperate if it protected the company.”
