He turned off the tap.
“I haven’t let anything go.”
“Then why aren’t you furious?”
“I am furious.”
“You certainly don’t look it.”
“Because Emma is already hurting. If I turn this into a battle between me and Tyler, what happens to her? She’ll feel caught in the middle. She’ll think she has to defend him against her own father.”
I crossed my arms.
“So what are you planning to do?”
Daniel dried his hands and looked at me.
“I’m going to invite Tyler to dinner.”
I stared at him.
“You’re going to do what?”
“Invite him to dinner. Sunday evening.”
“Daniel, our daughter came home crying because this boy made her feel ashamed of her body, and your response is to feed him?”
“I’m not feeding him as a reward.”
“Then what exactly are you doing?”
He paused before answering.
“Emma is afraid that if she stands up for herself, she’ll lose someone she cares about. I want her to see that she has a choice. I also want to give Tyler an opportunity to explain himself before I decide what kind of person he is.”
