“That’s a brave choice.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Excuse me?”
“You know how much she hates having her picture taken.”
“Only because you take pictures when I’m eating.”
“That is when you’re most relaxed.”
“That’s when I’m chewing.”
Emma laughed, and even Tyler smiled.
Then Daniel looked at our daughter.
“Did your mom ever tell you why she hated photographs when we first met?”
I knew exactly what he was doing.
He was giving me an opportunity to tell a story I hadn’t shared with Emma before.
I could have refused.
Instead, I set down my fork.
“When I was about your age, I dated a boy who didn’t like my smile.”
Emma turned toward me.
“Your smile?”
“He said my front teeth were too big. He told me I looked ridiculous when I laughed with my mouth open.”
“That is so stupid,” Emma said.
“It was.”
“Did you tell him that?”
