I deactivated the cards I had issued from my personal accounts, leaving my own primary card active.
I did not touch Derek’s separate bank accounts.
I did not attempt to access money belonging to his mother.
I simply stopped extending my personal credit to them.
Then I canceled our meal-delivery subscription.
The service delivered prepared dinners six evenings each week.
Derek loved it.
He often bragged that his wife always had wonderful meals waiting when he arrived home.
He rarely mentioned that someone else prepared them.
Or that I paid the invoices.
Next, I canceled the weekly premium grocery deliveries.
Imported seafood.
Expensive steaks.
Artisan cheeses.
Special desserts.
Patricia’s favorite imported chocolates.
Those luxuries were no longer my responsibility.
I also reviewed the other optional subscriptions connected to my personal account.
Private car detailing.
A wine club.
A golf-club payment arrangement.
A monthly spa package Patricia enjoyed.
For each service I personally owned or authorized, I requested cancellation or nonrenewal according to its terms.
