Shortly before our 40th wedding anniversary, I discovered that my husband had been secretly seeing our daughter’s friend. – Cute Info

I stood, smoothing the front of my dress.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” I began, “thank you for joining us tonight. Forty years is a long time to share a life with another person.”

The guests settled into silence.

“When Daniel and I married, we were eighteen. We had no idea what the future would bring. We only knew that we loved each other and wanted to build something together.”

Daniel smiled at the guests.

He thought he knew where my speech was going.

“We built a home. We raised four children. We survived difficult years, celebrated wonderful ones, and learned that marriage requires more than promises made at an altar.”

I paused.

“It requires honesty. Respect. And the courage to tell the truth, even when the truth is uncomfortable.”

Daniel’s smile disappeared.

He turned toward me.

I continued.

“Tonight, I prepared a special presentation. I thought it was fitting to remember our beginning before we discuss what the years have taught us.”
