“She is deputy managing editor of the National Herald.”
A murmur spread.
“And a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist.”
Someone dropped a purse.
Thomas continued.
“For the past two months, Ms. Adams has been embedded inside this residence as part of an investigation into a domestic labor-trafficking network involving multiple wealthy households across three states.”
Harold stopped moving.
Thomas looked directly at Katherine.
“Video.”
Another pause.
“Audio.”
“Financial records.”
“Witness testimony.”
“All have been provided to federal investigators.”
Katherine stepped backward.
“No.”
Thomas continued.
“Arrest warrants were issued this afternoon.”
Two federal agents walked toward the steps.
Katherine’s face transformed.
Confusion became panic.
Then rage.
“This is ridiculous.”
One agent approached.
“Katherine Prescott?”
“You know exactly who I am.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
He produced the warrant.
“You are under arrest.”
“For what?”
“Human trafficking.”
Katherine froze.
“Labor exploitation.”
“No.”
“Conspiracy.”
“This is insane.”
“Fraud.”
“Harold!”
The agent turned her around.
