Check.
Confirm.
Communicate.
Correct.
Never assume.
Then the warning system changed.
Laura froze.
“Stop.”
Andrew immediately stopped.
“What?”
She stared at the display.
“That wasn’t supposed to happen.”
The first officer looked at her.
“What does it mean?”
Laura’s expression became serious.
“The problem isn’t isolated to one system.”
Andrew looked toward her.
“Then what is it?”
Laura pointed to a second display.
“Something is feeding incorrect data into the aircraft’s control system.”
The first officer frowned.
“A sensor?”
“Possibly.”
Andrew asked, “Can we bypass it?”
Laura shook her head.
“Not without knowing exactly what’s causing the false readings.”
Then another alarm sounded.
This time, every person in the cockpit went silent.
The aircraft had begun losing altitude.
Andrew immediately looked at the instruments.
“What’s happening?”
Laura stared at the numbers.
Her mind raced.
Then she noticed something strange.
The altitude shown on one display didn’t match the second.
She checked the backup instruments.
They didn’t match either.
Laura’s eyes narrowed.
“Captain…”
“What?”
“Don’t trust the primary display.”
Andrew looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because it’s giving us false information.”
He looked toward the backup system.
“How do you know?”
Laura pointed.
“Because that number hasn’t changed.”
Andrew stared.
She was right.
