“Yes. Why?”
“Has anyone else contacted you about it?”
“No.”
“Good. Please don’t discuss this account with anyone until we establish your identity and explain its legal structure. The account is legitimate, but there are circumstances surrounding it that make confidentiality extremely important.”
I gripped the edge of the desk.
“What circumstances?”
“I can’t discuss them until you’ve completed verification. However, I can tell you this much: your son is an authorized beneficiary, and the account was established several years ago for your protection.”
“For my protection from whom?”
Daniel hesitated.
“That is a question you should ask the attorney who established the trust.”
“Who is the attorney?”
“Margaret Ellis. Her office will contact you tomorrow morning. I have your permission to provide her with your number?”
“Yes.”
When the call ended, I sat in silence.
An account established several years ago.
A trust created for my protection.
