“I don’t have to explain anything to you.”
“Then I suppose we’re finished talking.”
“Emily!”
I ended the call.
My hands were shaking, but I didn’t regret it.
For the first time since our divorce, Harrison couldn’t intimidate me simply by raising his voice.
He had recognized the card.
And he knew exactly what it meant.
That evening, Margaret called with another disturbing development.
“Harrison has contacted the trustee,” she said. “He’s claiming that Tyler transferred confidential financial information to you and that you are attempting to interfere with his inheritance.”
“Can he freeze the account?”
“Not simply because he wants to. The trust has independent oversight, and the trustee must follow its legal terms. But he can create complications, and I expect him to try.”
“What should I do?”
“Nothing impulsive. Preserve every message. Don’t confront him in person. And don’t discuss the evidence with anyone who hasn’t been authorized to see it.”
