No smashed plates.
No police.
Just boxes.
Silence.
A spare room.
A new set of keys.
And a marriage ending one ordinary Tuesday at a time.
PART 8 — AFTER
Sasha and Bram divorced in the spring.
She moved into a flat in Thornby.
My parents still see her.
I don’t ask about her.
We haven’t spoken in fourteen months.
She wrote twice.
The first letter was four pages long.
I didn’t finish it.
The second was only three sentences.
I’ve kept that one.
Not because I forgive her.
I’m not sure I do.
I’ve kept it because sometimes you need proof that something really happened.
Callan sees the children half the week.
He has never once been late.
I will say that for him.
And then nothing else.
The serving dish from that afternoon is still in my kitchen.
I don’t know why I kept it.
It’s an ordinary white dish.
