Kayla looked him up and down with exaggerated seriousness.
“Andrew, sweetheart, after everything we’ve been through, I thought we had a special bond.”
I immediately pointed at her.
“Kayla!”
She threw her head back and laughed.
“I’m joking! I’m joking!”
Andrew shook his head.
“She’s been here for thirty days, and somehow I’ve aged five years.”
Kayla blew us a kiss from the doorway.
“Love you both!”
Then she was gone.
The house felt strangely quiet after she left.
For a while, I stood in the kitchen, looking at the coffee filters on the highest shelf.
Andrew came up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist.
“What are you thinking about?”
I leaned against him.
“How ridiculous the whole thing was.”
He kissed my cheek.
“Very ridiculous.”
“And how much I love you.”
His arms tightened around me.
“That part I like.”
I turned in his embrace.
“Tell me something, Mr. Faithful Husband.”
