A frontier is a promise.
I put the stone, tried it and stood up.
South of the fence, Tom Bowers greeted from his grass. To the north, my spring was still running. The ridge was calm. The grass moved in the wind. Nothing dramatic happened. No court, no lawyers, no engines, no screams. Only land being earth, surviving all.
That’s the part that people miss when you ask me if I regret filling the lake.
They think the story is about anger. It’s not.
It’s about stewardship.
It is about the difference between peace and surrender.
It’s about understanding that some lines on earth are not just dirt, and some fights are not really about what was taken, but about what happens to you if you let it stay.
So if you ask me now if I did it again, I can answer clearly.
I’d rather not have had to.
