“We have reviewed the timeline, the medical records, your account of the wedding, and the statement provided by Alicia’s sister.”
I kept my hands folded in my lap.
“We found no evidence that you arranged the marriage in order to obtain a financial benefit. The documents support your account that you learned of the inheritance after Alicia’s death.”
For a moment, I could hardly breathe.
Then she continued.
“However, the absence of evidence of financial exploitation does not resolve the professional conduct issue.”
I nodded.
“You agreed to marry a patient whose care had recently been under your responsibility. Transferring her care was appropriate, but it did not eliminate the professional concerns raised by the relationship.”
One of the panel members adjusted the papers in front of him.
“Your decision was not consistent with the boundaries expected of a physician.”
I stared at the table.
I had hoped that refusing the inheritance would end the matter.
