I handed copies of the forensic audit around the table.
“Over the last six months, Mark authorized more than eighty thousand dollars in direct payments to Brenda. He also purchased an eighteen-thousand-dollar luxury watch using corporate money.”
Julian stared at the statements.
“You took emergency company funds and spent them on your mistress?”
“I was Managing Director!” Mark shouted. “I had authority to move company money!”
Stephen stepped forward.
“You were Managing Director, Mr. Sterling.”
Mark turned.
“Who are you?”
“Laura’s corporate counsel and legal representative for the majority shareholder.”
Stephen placed certified board documents on the table.
“An extraordinary shareholder meeting was held according to the company bylaws. Your executive authority has been revoked, your CEO appointment has been terminated, and all relevant financial institutions have been notified.”
Mark stared at him.
“That’s impossible. It’s my company!”
Stephen slid the corporate charter toward him.
“Seventy percent belongs to Laura.”
He tapped the page.
“Thirty percent belongs to you.”
“My father provided the startup money on that condition,” I said.
Mark glared at me.
“You were nothing but a clerk pushing papers!”
