My Husband Moved His Mistress Into My House—But Neither of Them Knew What I Had Discovered

“And Richard?”

“He is being investigated for his role. We don’t yet have the complete picture, but the evidence is significant.”

“What about the threatening message?”

“It’s been preserved. The investigators are treating it seriously.”

I closed my eyes.

“There’s something else,” Margaret continued. “The company records contain a document that may explain why Richard was so determined to keep Vesna close.”

“What document?”

“A draft agreement concerning the baby’s legal identity and a financial arrangement linked to the company.”

My heart stopped.

“Her baby’s identity?”

“That’s all I can responsibly tell you until the document has been examined properly. But Vesna’s attorney has been informed, and the investigators are looking into it.”

I thought about the questions Adrian had asked Vesna.

The birth certificate.

The DNA test.

The money.

Suddenly, the pieces seemed to be pointing toward something much darker than an affair.

“Margaret,” I said, “do you think Sophie is in danger?”
