One of the men stepped forward.
“Mrs. Bennett, we need to come inside.”
I didn’t move.
“Who are you?”
“Business associates.”
“Then you can wait outside until I have verified your identities.”
Richard’s expression changed.
“Claire, let them in.”
“No.”
The word surprised even me.
Richard looked at the two men.
Then he lowered his voice.
“You have no idea what you’re doing.”
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me.”
He leaned close enough that I could smell his cologne.
“Open the door.”
I held his gaze.
