My Husband Moved His Mistress Into My House—But Neither of Them Knew What I Had Discovered

“How generous.”

He ignored the sarcasm.

“She has a lot going on. The baby needs stability. And I think having you around would help her.”

“You mean you still want me to take care of her?”

He sighed.

“Claire, why must everything be a battle?”

“Why must everything be an order?”

For a moment, I thought he might lose his temper.

Instead, he reached for my hand.

“I know I’ve been difficult lately. But I need you to trust me.”

I looked at the flowers.

Then at the man who had bought them.

“Trust is an interesting thing, Richard. You can’t demand it from someone you’ve given every reason to doubt you.”

He released my hand.

“You’ve been talking to Vesna.”

It wasn’t a question.

I didn’t answer.

He leaned closer.

“Whatever she has told you, she’s confused. She’s frightened. She has a newborn, and she’s not thinking clearly.”

“Then why are you so worried about what she tells me?”
