My Husband Let His Nephew Play With Me All Night Long

Sometimes a feeling is simply information.

It tells you that something in your life needs attention.

It doesn’t tell you who should fix it.

And it certainly doesn’t give you permission to hurt the people who trust you.

Tom and I eventually had to decide whether our marriage could survive the damage we had caused each other. That decision took time, difficult conversations, and a willingness to face truths neither of us had wanted to see.

I won’t pretend that love alone solved everything.

It didn’t.

Love without honesty had allowed our problems to grow in silence. Attraction without boundaries had led me to betray someone who trusted me. And ambition without accountability had allowed Tom to make choices that hurt his own family.

We had all mistaken something important for something else.

Tom had mistaken success for security.

I had mistaken emotional attention for a solution to loneliness.

And Jake had mistaken an intense connection for a future he needed to pursue.
