“What?”
“A letter.”
“From Daniel?”
“No.”
She laughed softly.
“From me.”
When we met, she handed it to me.
I opened it later that evening.
It wasn’t long.
She wrote about how she had once believed happiness meant having beautiful things, expensive vacations, and a man who could make everyone else jealous.
Then she wrote:
“I thought you had lost everything when Daniel left you.”
“I understand now that you were the one person who eventually got your life back.”
I folded the letter.
I didn’t cry.
