My father stood next to me.
My sister held Sophie tightly.
Everyone started talking at once.
But somehow, amid all of it, I remained calm.
For the first time in years, I wasn’t making myself smaller.
I wasn’t invisible.
I stood at the head of my own table.
And everyone could finally see me.
PART 3: WHAT CAME AFTER
The divorce wasn’t easy.
Divorces rarely are.
But I had prepared myself.
That changed everything.
My lawyer had been right.
I was in a strong position.
Elon tried several different approaches.
He denied things.
He argued.
Sometimes, he suggested that I was unstable.
But documentation existed.
There were witnesses.
And there was no longer a frightened wife willing to accept his account of events simply to avoid conflict.
I protected myself.
I protected Sophie.
And eventually, our marriage ended.
The woman Elon had intended to marry never became his wife.
Once everything became public and the fantasy vanished, apparently she reconsidered the kind of man she had been planning to build a future with.
I didn’t celebrate that.
In certain ways, she had also believed a story Elon had decided to tell.
I was simply relieved that all of it was over.
