appetizers.
Lily should have begged to stay up late.
Noah would have fallen asleep under the table.
Healing was full of moments that looked normal until you noticed who was
missing.
PART 12 — THE FAMILY MEETING
Dad demanded a family meeting after learning Melissa had been seeing me
privately.
I declined.
He sent a long email.
He wrote that grief had made me punitive.
He said my “new wealth” had created unhealthy power dynamics.
He suggested a family trust so “everyone could benefit responsibly.”
I forwarded the email to my attorney because I wanted an outside person
to confirm I was reading it correctly.
She called.
“Is there any legal obligation you’re worried about?”
“No.”
“Then this is a family request, not a legal claim.”
That distinction calmed me.
I replied to Dad myself.
The settlement relates to the deaths of my husband and children. I will
not discuss distributing it among extended family. Do not contact my
advisers, the foundation, or Ethan’s parents about money.
He answered within eleven minutes.
So that’s it? You think you’re better than us now?
I did not reply.
Boundaries become much easier when you stop believing every accusation
requires a defense.
