My Ex’s Best Friend Asked Me to Hang Her Curtains… Then Smiled, “Close Them When You’re Done.”

He sat at my kitchen table while I organized screenshots and printed emails.

We worked for hours.

He didn’t touch me.

He didn’t make romantic promises.

He simply helped me gather the evidence I needed to defend myself.

And somehow, that meant more than a thousand declarations of love could have.

Around midnight, I leaned back in my chair.

“Why are you doing all this?”

He looked confused.

“Because you’re innocent.”

“You could stay out of it. Delaney is your girlfriend.”

His expression changed.

“Willa, I need to tell you something.”

My heart tightened.

“What?”

“Delaney and I have been having serious problems for months. I thought we could work through them, but I don’t know anymore.”

“Caleb, I don’t want to come between you.”

“You didn’t create those problems.”

“But I have feelings for you.”

“I know.”

“And that makes everything complicated.”

He nodded.

“That’s why I need to make my own decision about my relationship with Delaney. Not because of you, and not because of what happened online.”
