My Ex Wife’s Mother Said “I’m Pregnant,” —Then I Froze When She Told Me Who the Father Was!

Graham Sutton was thirty-two, a carpenter who ran a small remodeling business.

He’d been married to Paige for four years.

Their marriage ended nineteen months earlier when he discovered she’d been seeing a regional sales manager from her company.

Paige told everyone Graham was boring.

Apparently, keeping your promises and paying your bills qualified as boring now.

During their marriage, Graham had repaired everything in our house from the loose basement steps to the kitchen cabinets.

He never asked for money.

After the divorce, I expected him to disappear.

Instead, he called every few months to ask whether the house was holding up.

Then one Saturday, he arrived with a toolbox.

“The porch railing’s getting dangerous,” he said. “I noticed it when I drove by.”

“You don’t owe me anything anymore.”

“I know.”

He looked at the splintered railing.

“Doesn’t mean I want you breaking your neck.”
