And I remembered.
Find Anna.
At first, I convinced myself that I didn’t have to do it immediately.
I told myself grief was making me confused.
Maybe Carol hadn’t known what she was saying.
Maybe the medication had affected her.
Maybe Anna didn’t matter anymore.
But every time I tried to put the promise out of my mind, the same sentence returned.
“Find Anna.”
So I started searching.
I didn’t know where to begin.
I remembered Anna’s maiden name.
I remembered the university we attended.
I remembered the town where she had grown up.
That was about all I had.
I searched social media.
Nothing.
I joined old college groups.
Nothing.
I contacted former classmates.
Some didn’t remember her.
Others remembered her but had no idea where she had gone.
I spent evenings sitting at my computer, typing variations of her name into search engines.
Sometimes I found people who looked like her.
