My Daughter Wanted $800 a Month and Four Days of Babysitting for Her Basement So I Rented My Own Little House for $550 – The Archivist

“Of course.”

“And maybe I could help you plant some flowers in the spring?”

“If you can manage to keep Sadie from planting her shoes.”

Michelle laughed.

It was the first easy laugh I had heard from her in weeks.

Todd shook my hand before he followed her outside.

Then he hesitated.

“Judy?”

“Yes?”

“I know this doesn’t fix everything. But I’d like to pay you for the bookkeeping you did for Mr. Brandt, if you’ll let me help you get the business side of it organized. You shouldn’t have to do that work without a proper agreement.”

I smiled.

“Mr. Brandt is already paying me.”

“I know. I meant the paperwork. Invoices, records, whatever you need.”

I considered it.

“That would be useful. But I’ll decide what I need, and you’ll have to let me do the work my way.”

He grinned.

“Fair enough.”

When their pickup disappeared down the road, I went back inside and cleared the table.
