My Brazilian Neighbor Kisses Everyone Hello—Then Said, “With You, It’s Not Just Hello”

It was Tessa Morgan, a nurse from North Harbor.

“Renata, there’s something you need to know.”

Her voice shook.

“I checked the dates you sent me. Halloween wasn’t the only time they used your name.”

My stomach tightened.

“How many?”

“Fourteen that I can identify.”

I gripped the edge of the table.

Then she said the words that changed everything.

“And several of those records were submitted on days you weren’t even in the country.”

“Someone has been using your name to approve services that may never have happened.”

My attorney, Natalie Kessler, said it without raising her voice.

Somehow that made it worse.

We were sitting in her downtown Milwaukee office, across from a window overlooking wet November streets.

I’d brought everything.

My work schedules.

Payroll statements.

Travel confirmations.

The Halloween email.

Even the grocery receipt from the night I’d supposedly interpreted at a hospital while visiting my parents in Brazil.
