My Boyfriend Proposed to Me in the Most Romantic Way on Valentine’s Day, but the Next Morning, He Demanded the Ring Back

We didn’t need to.

I thought about all the ordinary evenings we had spent together, the difficult conversations, the little compromises, and the dreams we had discussed while lying awake at night.

Now, suddenly, those dreams seemed closer than ever.

We were going to get married.

I was going to become his wife.

When he finally pulled away, he wiped a tear from my cheek with his thumb.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, future Mrs. Daniel,” he whispered.

I laughed.

“You’d better not start calling me that before we even set a date.”

“Too late,” he replied. “I’ve been practicing.”

I kissed him, and he laughed against my lips.

That night, we stayed awake talking about the future. We discussed possible wedding dates, whether we wanted a small ceremony or a large celebration, and which relatives would probably cry before the vows were even finished.

At one point, Daniel took my hand and admired the ring.
