That is all I am permitted to say about it and it is all I want to say about it.
Here is what happened on the road.
My sister left that gathering at about half past seven in the evening.
She had something in the morning. She said goodbye to four people including our mother and nobody thought anything of it.
And about nine miles out, at a service station on the county road, she found an eight-year-old boy standing by the air pump.
In one trainer. At about ten to eight at night.
She put him in her car.
And then she did not bring him back.
Not that night. Not the next morning when it was on every local station. Not in the fourth week when there were two hundred volunteers out. Not in fourteen months.
That is the sentence. That is her crime and it is enormous and I am not going to write one word here that softens it, because she has not asked me to and because she told the agents everything inside four hours without a lawyer in the room.
