Chapter One: The Woman Who Thought She Had It All
Before motherhood transformed her life, Jan Greenman was a woman who knew exactly where she was going.
She had built a promising career in the financial world, working as a treasurer for a private merchant bank in Bristol. Her position was not something she had stumbled into by accident. She had worked hard, earned the respect of her colleagues, and reached a level of professional success that made her proud.
Her husband, Paul, was equally ambitious. He ran a successful courier business in Swindon, and together they enjoyed a comfortable life in which financial worries rarely occupied their thoughts.
They had a beautiful home, a circle of friends, and enough freedom to enjoy holidays, dinners, and spontaneous adventures.
Their marriage had lasted six years when they learned that they were expecting their first child.
Jan was delighted.
She loved being pregnant and continued working until three weeks before her due date. She imagined taking a few months away from her career, recovering from childbirth, and then returning to the professional world she enjoyed.
