Lily’s expression softened.
“I didn’t want you to worry.”
“Keeping it from me made me worry more.”
“I know.”
He took her hand.
“But I also need to listen when you tell me you want to do something. I can’t promise I’ll always say yes, because sometimes there really are things we need to be careful about. But I can promise to listen.”
Lily began to cry.
Jacob pulled her into his arms.
Ethan stood quietly beside the table.
He looked relieved, but I could tell he was still worried about what would happen when we got home.
Before we left, Mr. Harrison explained the new arrangements.
Lily’s activities would be discussed with her father, and the school would communicate any changes in her schedule. Her stage crew responsibilities would be coordinated with the school nurse and her care team.
Jacob agreed.
Lily agreed not to hide changes in her plans.
