Cloves contain eugenol, a natural compound that has antioxidant properties and has been studied for its biological effects. However, research on isolated compounds does not necessarily mean that drinking clove tea produces the same effects in the human body.
Together, ginger and cloves offer a flavorful way to enjoy a warm, caffeine-free drink. Although both ingredients have interesting properties, there is currently limited evidence that drinking them together provides special health benefits beyond what can reasonably be expected from the individual ingredients.
1. It May Help Soothe Occasional Digestive Discomfort
Ginger is widely used in traditional preparations for digestive discomfort. Some scientific studies suggest that ginger may help with nausea, but evidence for other digestive complaints, such as bloating and indigestion, is less conclusive.
A warm drink may also feel soothing after a meal and help you maintain your fluid intake.
Cloves contribute flavor, but there is not enough reliable human research to conclude that adding them to ginger makes the drink more effective for digestion.
