Bella Gets Help
The moment Joanne brought the dog into the shade, people began gathering around.
One of the store cashiers saw what was happening and ran outside with a case of cold water.
Bella was exhausted.
She could barely move.
Joanne stayed beside her while the dog slowly began drinking.
By the time a deputy arrived, Bella was lapping water from a hubcap.
It was a small thing, but to everyone watching, it was a sign that the dog was still fighting.
Then came the question everyone was waiting for:
Where was the owner?
About twenty minutes later, the woman walked out of a nearby nail salon.
Instead of immediately checking on Bella, she reportedly wanted to know who was going to pay for the broken window.
A small crowd had gathered by then.
The deputy explained what had happened and discussed the applicable law with her.
The owner was cited for animal neglect.
Joanne, meanwhile, wasn’t charged for breaking the window.
Bella was taken to an emergency veterinarian that night.
After receiving treatment, she was eventually placed in a foster home later that week.
And Joanne?
She didn’t consider herself a hero.
She simply saw a living animal in trouble and decided she couldn’t walk away.
