I threw my arms around him.
“Daniel, that’s wonderful!”
He hugged me tightly and kissed my forehead.
“You see? I told you not to give up on me.”
I pulled away just enough to look into his eyes.
“So does this mean you are finally coming to speak to my family?”
He laughed.
“Of course. Amara, how long do you think I can keep my beautiful wife waiting?”
I hit his chest playfully.
“Seven years is already too long!”
He held my hands.
“I know, baby. Give me a little more time. I want to do everything properly. I want your family to be proud of the man who comes to ask for your hand.”
That night, I lay in bed imagining our wedding.
I could almost hear the music and see my mother wiping tears from her eyes.
For the first time in years, I felt certain that my waiting was finally coming to an end.
