“What kind of arrangements?”
Beatrice raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, sweetheart. You really are innocent.”
“Beatrice!”
She laughed so loudly that I threw a cushion at her.
“All right, all right. Have you never heard of wealthy couples who agree to swap partners? Some adults explore swinging, open relationships, or other arrangements because they enjoy experiences that don’t fit traditional expectations.”
I stared at her.
“You’re joking.”
“Why? Because you think rich people spend all their time drinking champagne and discussing the stock market? Please. Some of them have private lives that would give you enough gossip to fill an entire library.”
“That doesn’t mean everyone does it.”
“Of course not. Some people prefer traditional relationships, and others make different choices. The important thing is that adults understand what they’re agreeing to.”
She paused, then smiled mischievously.
“But you should stop assuming that everything unfamiliar is automatically shameful. Sometimes people discover that their ideas about the world are much narrower than reality.”
