I didn’t know whether she was seriously injured.
I didn’t know whether the snake had anything to do with what had happened.
I didn’t even know whether Adrian had ever intended to come upstairs.
All I knew was that I needed help.
I reached for my phone.
Then I stopped.
A thought flashed through my mind.
What if the entire situation had been recorded? What if someone had been waiting for me to react? What if the snake was only one part of a plan I didn’t understand?
I was frightened, confused, and ashamed of how easily I had allowed myself to be drawn into something I barely understood.
Instead of calling for help immediately, I panicked.
I ran toward the elevator.
I knew it was the wrong decision, but fear had taken control of me.
By the time I reached the hotel lobby, my breathing was ragged. I hurried outside, climbed into my car, and drove away.
