I never thought I would become jealous of my own sister. But lately, whenever she comes to our house, I find myself watching my husband’s face instead of listening to the conversation.

Because suddenly I understood.

The betrayal wasn’t one dramatic moment.

It had been months of emotional secrecy.

Private conversations.

Confessions.

Comfort.

A bond that should never have existed between my husband and my sister.

“Does he love you?”

Rachel shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

“Do you love him?”

She didn’t answer.

That was enough.

I walked downstairs.

Daniel was sitting at the kitchen table.

He looked at me and immediately knew.

“You told her?”

Rachel had told him.

Not everything.

But enough.

I stood across from him.

“How long?”

He looked down.

“Three months.”

I felt dizzy.

“Three months?”

“We didn’t plan it.”

“You don’t plan betrayal, Daniel. You choose it.”

He rubbed his face.

“I was angry.”

“At me?”

“At myself.”

“Then why did you go to my sister?”

He didn’t answer.

I walked closer.

“Why her?”

He finally looked at me.

“Because she listened.”

I laughed bitterly.

“I listened for fourteen years.”

“I know.”

“No. You don’t.”

I pointed toward the stairs.

“You took the person I trusted most and turned her into your secret.”

“I never meant to hurt you.”

“You didn’t mean to?”

My voice broke.

“You lied every day.”

He started crying.

I had never seen Daniel cry like that.
