I Compared His Size to My Ex — He Sent Me a Measuring Tape and Divorce Papers

Work became my refuge, the one place where I still felt competent and valued.

I threw myself into my marketing projects with renewed energy, staying late to perfect presentations and volunteering for additional responsibilities.

But even as I tried to move forward professionally, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d been wronged in some fundamental way.

David had thrown away our marriage based on one moment of anger. One cruel comment made in the heat of an argument.

I started to wonder if David had been looking for an excuse to leave.

If my cruel words had simply provided him with the justification he needed to end a marriage he’d already decided he didn’t want.

But even as I tried to construct a narrative that made David the villain in our story, I couldn’t quite convince myself it was true.

The man I’d married wasn’t cruel or calculating.
