I came home from a late-night business trip and found my daughter washing clothes by hand in complete darkness.

She had mistaken that trust for weakness.

And she had used my absence to convince my daughter that she had no power.

When the recording ended, I looked at the investigator.

“What happens now?”

He explained that the evidence would be considered alongside the financial records, witness statements, and Sofia’s account. Any criminal charges would depend on the findings of the investigation and the applicable law.

I understood.

I didn’t need to decide the outcome myself.

I only needed to make sure the truth was not buried again.

Patricia returned from Cancún two days later.

By then, she knew the situation was serious.

Her first attempt to contact Sofia was stopped through the appropriate channels. She was informed that she was not to pressure or intimidate the girl while the matter was being investigated.

She then contacted me repeatedly.

I refused to meet her alone.

Instead, communication about the house, our marriage, and her belongings went through the appropriate legal channels.
