I came home from a late-night business trip and found my daughter washing clothes by hand in complete darkness.

She went silent.

Then her voice dropped.

“You are making a terrible mistake.”

“Perhaps. But it won’t be Sofia paying for it anymore.”

I ended the call.

Within minutes, my phone began vibrating with messages.

Patricia accused me of humiliating her.

Teresa said I was destroying the family.

Bianca sent a message claiming Sofia had always hated her and was inventing lies to ruin her life.

I saved every message.

I did not answer.

For the next hour, I sat with my brother and reviewed the records I had gathered. We discussed changing the locks, preserving any relevant household records, and arranging for an appropriate, documented process to recover Sofia’s belongings.

I had no intention of walking into a confrontation alone.

But there was one thing I still needed to do.

I needed to return to my house.

Not to argue with Patricia.

Not to search recklessly through her belongings.
