I am a young woman with a disability, and today I gathered the courage to ask a simple question: “Can you accept a ‘hello’?” If so, please leave

For decades, traditional ideas of fashion and beauty have often failed to represent people with disabilities. But moments like this challenge those ideas in the simplest possible way.

Fashion is for everyone.

Glamour is for everyone.

A special night is for everyone.

And a person who uses a wheelchair can be just as stylish, confident, elegant, and ready for the spotlight as anyone else.

That is one of the reasons this photograph feels so powerful.

The wheelchair is not presented as something that needs to be hidden.

It is simply part of the person in the photograph.

Just as the purple dress is part of her.

Just as her jewelry is part of her.

Just as her hairstyle, smile, personality, and confidence are part of her.

Together, all of those details create the image.

The visual contrast makes the photograph even stronger.

The dark wheelchair provides a solid foundation at the bottom of the frame. The rich purple outfit immediately draws the eye toward the woman. The silver embellishments create movement and sparkle, while the blue and purple lights in the background add depth.

And then there is the glowing heart.

It sits behind her almost like a symbol of the evening itself.
