Camilla remembered the previous night.
The noises.
The hidden panel.
The water trail.
Someone might have been inside her house.
Someone she had never seen.
The Secret Behind the Pantry
Edoardo insisted that they contact the police again before entering the house.
This time, officers examined the pantry more carefully. They removed the loose panel and discovered a narrow cavity behind the cabinet.
It wasn’t large enough to conceal a person comfortably, but it connected to an old service passage that ran behind part of the kitchen wall.
The passage had been sealed during renovations years earlier.
According to the building plans, it was supposed to be inaccessible.
But the seal had recently been disturbed.
An officer shone a flashlight into the darkness.
“There’s something back here.”
He reached inside and pulled out a small black device.
It was a motion-activated camera.
Camilla felt the floor shift beneath her feet.
