He Invited His “Childless” Ex-Wife to Christmas to Humiliate Her—Then She Arrived With Quadruplets

FOUR CHILDREN IN WINTER COATS

The room became unbearably quiet.

Olivia held Ethan’s hand.

Caleb stood beside me with his shoulders squared.

Little Noah stayed close to my leg.

Marcus stared at them.

He looked as if someone had knocked the air out of him.

Ashley finally found her voice.

“You never told me you had children.”

Marcus swallowed.

“They’re complicated.”

I looked at him.

“No. They’re children.”

Ashley looked at me.

“Are they yours?”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

Her eyes moved from one child to another.

“How many?”

“Four.”

She stared at Marcus.

“You have four children?”

He didn’t answer.

I did.

“Four children he hasn’t seen in six years.”

Patricia stepped forward.

“This is not appropriate.”

I turned toward her.

“What’s inappropriate is pretending your grandchildren don’t exist.”

Her jaw tightened.

“They are not my grandchildren.”

The words struck harder than I expected.

Caleb heard them.

He looked up at me.

“Mom?”

I immediately knelt beside him.

“Don’t listen.”

But Marcus suddenly spoke.

“Mom.”

Patricia turned.

“What?”

“They are my children.”

Her face hardened.

“You don’t know that.”

I stood.

“Actually, we do.”

My attorney, David Cross, stepped forward.

I had brought him with me for a reason.

He carried a black leather briefcase.

Patricia noticed it.

“What is this?”

David calmly opened the briefcase.

“Mrs. Reynolds, I believe there are several matters your family will want to discuss.”

Marcus’s expression changed.

“Kesha, what are you doing?”

“Something I should have done years ago.”

David placed several documents on the table.

“Petitions concerning unpaid child support.”

Another document.

“Hidden marital assets.”

Another.

“Fraud.”

Then another.

“And misrepresentation concerning Mr. Reynolds’s marital status.”

Ashley stared at Marcus.

“Marital status?”

Marcus closed his eyes.

I looked at her.

“Marcus and I were still legally married when he proposed to you.”

Ashley slowly removed her hand from his arm.

“No.”

Marcus whispered, “Ashley, please.”

She stepped away.

“Is that true?”

He didn’t answer.

She looked at me.

“Were you married to him when he proposed?”

“Yes.”

Ashley looked like she had been slapped.

Marcus finally spoke.

“It was complicated.”

I almost laughed.

“No, Marcus. It wasn’t.”

I pointed toward my children.

“You were married to me.”

“You knew I was pregnant.”

“You knew these children existed.”

“And you chose to disappear.”

Marcus looked down.

Olivia suddenly stepped forward.

“You’re our dad?”

Marcus looked at her.

“Yes.”

She studied his face.

“You look like me.”

His eyes filled with tears.

“Yes.”

She turned to me.

“Why didn’t he come?”

Nobody answered.

Then Caleb spoke.

“Because he didn’t want to.”

Marcus flinched.

“That isn’t true.”

Caleb’s voice shook.

“You didn’t even know my birthday.”

Marcus looked at him.

“I was wrong.”

Caleb crossed his arms.

“You were gone.”

Silence filled the room again.

Then David placed another folder on the table.

“This isn’t only about the children.”

Patricia’s eyes narrowed.

“What else?”

David looked directly at her.

“The Reynolds family trust.”

She froze.

“What about it?”

David calmly replied:

“It’s about to become very important.”
