Was it a coincidence?
Had someone used her identity?
Or had Helen known something about my husband long before I did?
I took out my phone and called her.
She answered on the second ring.
“Margaret? Where are you?”
I stared at her name on the document.
“I’m looking at something with your signature on it.”
Silence.
Then Helen whispered four words that shattered everything I thought I understood.
“Please don’t trust Daniel.”
I swallowed hard.
“I’m not asking about Daniel. I’m asking about you.”
My sister began to cry.
And before she could explain, I heard a man’s voice in the background.
A voice I recognized immediately.
Daniel.
“Who are you talking to, Helen?”
