But I’m grateful that the truth finally came out.
Last Sunday, my father held my hand and whispered:
“If I could turn back time, I’d choose to be beside you every single day.”
I smiled through my tears.
“Dad, we can’t get those twenty-seven years back. But we can make sure we don’t lose the years we still have.”
He embraced me.
“I love you, my little girl.”
And for the first time in my life, I heard those words from the father I’d spent twenty-seven years believing was dead.
Sometimes the people we love hide painful truths because they’re afraid. But everyone deserves to know their own story and decide for themselves whom to forgive.
