I appreciated their caution.
I was not interested in surviving one problem only to create another.
When Dr. Patel finally sat down with us, she spoke plainly.
“The mass is large enough to explain your symptoms. It is also causing pressure on nearby organs. Given its size and appearance, I recommend surgical removal. We will send the tissue for examination, which will tell us what it actually is.”
Michael asked, “Can you tell from the scan whether it is cancer?”
“No. The scan helps us assess the mass and look for concerning features, but pathology is needed for a definitive diagnosis.”
“What happens if it is malignant?”
“If the findings suggest cancer during surgery, we will follow the plan discussed with you beforehand and consider the appropriate additional procedure. We will not make promises about the final diagnosis before we have the evidence.”
I looked at the images on the screen.
