At 80, my belly had grown so large that the doctors were left in shock. After an ultrasound, one of the doctors suspected that I might be pregnant! But

The ultrasound revealed a small cystic abnormality near my right ovary.

The doctor explained that it required further evaluation. She recommended additional testing and a repeat ultrasound in approximately six to eight weeks to determine whether the finding persisted or changed.

She was careful not to call it cancer.

She was also careful not to dismiss it.

I remember asking whether it was something dangerous.

“We cannot determine that from this examination alone,” she told me. “It may be benign, but we need to follow it properly.”

She handed me a report and a follow-up appointment card.

I was frightened.

Samuel put his arm around me.

“We’ll take care of it,” he said.

I believed him.

On the way home, I asked what the doctor had said.

He was unusually quiet.

“She said we should return for another examination.”

“And the cyst?”

“She wants to check it again.”

“Could it be cancer?”
