“Is it cancer?”
“We don’t know that, and I don’t want you to assume the worst. Many ovarian cysts are benign. We’ll investigate it properly.”
I pressed my hands against my abdomen.
For eighteen years, I had been told that my body was the problem.
Now, for the first time, someone was actually examining it.
Dr. Wilson continued.
“This cyst may explain the swelling and some of your discomfort. But we cannot determine whether it has affected your fertility without further evaluation. And we certainly cannot conclude that you are unable to conceive simply by looking at you.”
I felt a strange mixture of relief and terror.
Then she explained something that made my heart begin to pound.
“Infertility can involve the woman, the man, both partners, or sometimes remain unexplained. If you want answers about why you haven’t conceived, both of you would need appropriate assessments.”
Both of you.
